Bandit's Story

I was lucky to adopt Bandit in 1994 from a local SPCA. He was about 20 months old. He was beautiful, intelligent, loyal, playful and loved the outdoors - my devoted and constant companion. He was never any trouble and in excellent health until November 2009 when he was diagnosed with cancer. My VET said he had 2 large tumors in his chest. The only symptom which caused me to bring him in was that he was not eating much. Of course, at 17+ years old, I expected changes. He slept more, did not like being outside as much but he still liked to play and bark at other dogs. I tried preparing special meals and giving him anything he wanted just so he would eat but he started to lose weight. It was just one day that made a difference-when he took a turn for the worst. The decision any pet lover must make became inevitable and Bandit & I lost the battle on January 12, 2010. Oddly, he looked as handsome as ever until the end, which only masked the seriousness of his illness. He died peacefully with me holding him. I know he had a great life but I still wish it were longer. He will be missed always.
